Overview

JOB SUMMARY

CSU Global is seeking a Director of Information Technology who will report to the Chief Business Officer and is responsible for managing the technology services, information services, and data management and reporting functions of the University. The primary duties of this position are to lead, manage, and hold accountable department staff, maintain department policies and procedures, and oversee enterprise resource planning (ERP) and student information systems (SIS); infrastructure and cloud services; information security and compliance; and vendor and contract management. This role will also lead CSU Global through efforts related to digital transformation, institutional AI readiness, and automated data operations. ***This position requires residency within 75 miles of Denver, CO.***

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  •  People Leadership & Management
    • Lead, manage, and hold accountable Information Technology department and Institutional Effectiveness unit staff.
    • Practice leadership and management principles, including setting and managing the department vision, plans, and goals; giving clear direction; providing necessary tools and support; delegating effectively; communicating clearly; providing feedback; and rewarding and recognizing.
    • Develop and execute an annual department operational plan to support university objectives and strategic goals.
    • Define, collect, and provide key operational metrics to executive leadership at least once a month.
  • Policies, Procedures, & Budget
    • Maintain department policies and procedures, ensuring they are documented, streamlined, maintained, followed, and filed appropriately.
    • Review IT and data security policies annually, updating as necessary to ensure ongoing institutional compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
    • Manage the department budget to ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability; authorize expenditures and ensure expenses align with department and University goals.
  • IT Systems & Infrastructure
    • Lead system administration and technology roadmaps for critical enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, the student information system (SIS), and custom developments in partnership with key stakeholders.
    • Plan and implement enterprise information infrastructure to support distributed and centralized academic, student services, and business operations—including file servers, Azure networking infrastructure, and the managed services partners that support the University’s technology needs.
    • Explore, migrate, and utilize SaaS and cloud services to support university IT needs, ensuring the IT portfolio provides appropriate protection, flexibility, and scalability.
    • Assist in the selection, implementation, and optimization of tools, technologies, and methods for digital transformation, institutional AI readiness, and automated data operations in partnership with university-wide departments. 
    • Maximize investment dollars by overseeing the preparation of bid specifications for technology purchases, obtaining competitive pricing, and ensuring proper integration with the University's enterprise architecture.
  • Data Management and Governance
    • Support the University’s data needs and reporting requirements through operational oversight of the institutional effectiveness unit.
    • Collaborate with University leaders to evaluate and produce opportunities for new data science paradigms, predictive analytics, and conversational AI integration. 
  • Security, Risk, & Compliance
    • Serve as the Information Security Officer for the institution, taking responsibility for the administration of information security policy and compliance requirements.
    • Oversee regular assessments of IT data security, risk management, disaster recovery, business continuity, and regulatory compliance.
    • Keep executive leadership informed of any regulatory changes and resulting impacts to the university, maintaining the highest level of ethical standards and confidentiality.
  • Collaboration & Relationship Management
    • Manage vendor and outsourced IT contracts and relationships, ensuring overall service levels are maintained, and facilitating cross-functional project resolution.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork among academic and business units to help realize and prioritize the technology needs of each unit.
    • Represent the University in local, regional, and national IT organizations to remain current on profession and industry trends.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervise the professionals in IT and IE operations.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Advanced technical knowledge of and experience working across various functional areas of information technology, systems administration, information security, IT Governance, and IT infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking with a proven track record of developing and implementing technology roadmaps, acting as a change agent, championing process improvements and creating and managing supporting budgets.
  • Higher education systems expertise, including hands-on experience with information management, student information, and customer relationship management systems (e.g., Ellucian/Anthology Student, CampusNexus, Salesforce, JIRA).
  • Strong communication skills, with excellent verbal, written, and cross-functional presentation abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on relationship building, collaboration, and high-quality customer service.
  • Strong cognitive abilities, including creative and collaborative critical thinking, meticulous organization, multi-tasking, and deep attention to detail.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, Management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Leadership Experience: At least eight years of progressive leadership experience managing and leading complex information technology teams.
  • Supervisory Experience: At least five years of experience in a direct supervisory and people-management role.
  • Project Management: At least three years of experience managing software development and/or custom tech implementation projects.
  • Industry Experience: Direct experience managing higher education IT systems is highly preferred.

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 annually
