Overview

JOB SUMMARY

The Course Production Specialist is responsible for the technical buildout, quality control, and maintenance of online courses within the Canvas LMS. Under the guidance of Instructional Designers, this role focuses on implementing approved course content, ensuring design standards are met, and supporting the production aspects of course development. The Course Production Specialist does not handle pedagogy or content design but plays a key role in executing and maintaining high-quality online courses that meet University standards and accessibility requirements. **This is a part-time position with an expected 20-29 hours per week. This is a new position for up to 10 months with a potential to become permanent. **

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Builds and updates course content in Canvas LMS based on specifications provided by Instructional Designers.
  • Performs quality control checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with University and accessibility standards (WCAG 2, Section 504, and 508).
  • Revises supplemental content and integrates multimedia assets (e.g., video, audio, SCORM, Canvas Studio) into courses.
  • Implements copy edits, grammar and punctuation corrections across course materials.
  • Supports integration and troubleshooting of common third-party tools such as McGraw Hill Connect, Labster, and uCertify.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of changes and revisions.
  • Executes routine maintenance tasks like updating templates and boilerplate language
  • Other production-related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Experience working in Canvas LMS (higher education or corporate environment).
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines in a remote environment.
  • Familiarity with HTML markup and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of WCAG 2 and ADA accessibility requirements.
  • Experience with common educational technology tools (e.g., McGraw Hill Connect, Labster, uCertify).
  • Basic familiarity with multimedia tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canvas Studio, Loom, or Camtasia preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving work environment.
  • Fundamental understanding of instructional design principles and adult learning (for context, not design responsibility).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Education, Instructional Technology, or a related field preferred).
  • At least 1 year of experience working in higher education or online learning environments.
  • At least 1 year of experience using HTML.
  • Experience with audio/video production or eLearning authoring tools is a plus.

● The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

 

TOTAL COMPENSATION

 

Salary: $25 per hour for up to 29 hours per week.
